The Punjab Education Minister along with other high ranking officials of the ministry spent a hectic day in Rawalpindi on Saturday holding meetings with students and parents in a bid to take them into confidence over the ongoing rechecking of papers. The students were earlier shown failed in the much-criticised online system.
The education minister, Mujtaba Shuja Rehman, has recently suspended controller, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE), Rawalpindi the faulty results of intermediate.
On Saturday, he also grilled director (colleges) Dr M Ashraf and directed BISE, Rawalpindi Chairman Dr Qasim to make the re-checking process transparent to the satisfaction of the students.
A 10-room rechecking centre has been established in order to make the process speedy so that revised results are announced within next four days.
This is for the first time that rechecking of Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) Part-I is being done free of cost in a bid to pacify the enraged students that were disappointed by the faulty results shown online.
Secretary BISE, Rawalpindi Rana Mohammad Atta told Dawn that so far 10 per cent students of first year have passed during rechecking that were earlier shown failed in the online system adding that the exact figure of passed students would be
available after complete rechecking.
In his meeting with students, the minister said that the architect of online system had been terminated assuring them that the rechecking would resolve the grievances of the students.
“Peaceful protest is your right but now I appeal you to cooperate with the rechecking staff so that the revised results could be finalised at the earliest,” the minister told students outside the rechecking centre.
Police have been deployed at the centre in order to avert any untoward incident as several students continue to inquire about their papers daily.
However, Secretary Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education Rawalpindi, who is in-charge of the rechecking process, said that students were demonstrating patience and there was no fear of agitation now.
