The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Asataza Punjab demanded for extending summer vacation till September due to Ramazan and bad weather. In a press statement JAC office-bearers including Rana Arshad, Syed Sajjad Akbar Kazmi, Rana Liaquat and others said many teachers had carried out duties in summer camps and many of them including students also observe Aitkaf in Ramazan so the summer break should be extended for another 15 days. They said construction was also underway in different schools. It is pertinent to mention here that the Punjab government had announced annual summer vacation till August 14 this year. Secretary Schools Aslam Kamboh had been claiming that there would be no extension in holidays so that schools complete academic year.

THE Punjab School Education Department has announced schedule for schools during holy month of Ramazan after annual summer vacation ends on August 14.
It is learnt that from August 15 the schools would remain open from 7:45am to 12.45pm throughout the week except Friday when schools would open on 7:45am and close at 11:45am.
It is pertinent to mention here that different teacher associations and parents of the students have been demanding the government extend annual summer break in the wake of ongoing holy month of Ramazan and hot weather conditions. However the department officials argue that in case the summer break was extended, the schools would be unable to complete academic year. They believe extending summer vacation was not possible this year. Nonetheless, it seems that private schools will not follow the government’s schedule for reopening of schools in the wake of pressing demands of the students and their parents to reopen schools in first week of September after Eid-ul-Fitr.

Parents have asked the government to force the managements of private schools and colleges to extend their summer vacation till Eid. Most of the private schools and colleges in Attock are opening on August 15 after more than two months of summer vacation.
But parents say that opening private educational institute in hot and humid weather, amid long power outages, would be tough for students and teachers.
